The kite festival itself was really interesting as loads of people gathered in front of the lake palace to fly their kites, and I hadn't realised how competitive it would be or how part of the challenge involved trying to cut down other people's kites by chafing the string, which contains sharpened glass. Families were totally engrossed in it all. And there was I thinking it would be a rather sedate affair! So many kites swirling overhead, quite wonderful.
Beyond the kites, the open air event turned out to be a celebration of Rajasthani culture with some fantastic folk musicians, dancers and rangoli artists. Really enjoyable and so glad I was able to see it.
Long into the evening the skies were full of kites accompanied by the sound of fireworks.
